☀️ Open Water Safety – Stay Safe This Summer ☀️

With temperatures set to rise over the next few days, we know many people will be looking for ways to cool off and enjoy the outdoors.

Over the coming weeks, we will be announcing our local policing priorities for the next three months, and one of those priorities will be Open Water Safety.

The Forest Beat area is home to several open water locations, including Albert Village Lake, Hicks Lodge, and our extensive canal network. While these areas are popular places to visit, entering open water can be extremely dangerous. Hidden hazards, cold water shock, deep water, strong currents and underwater obstacles can quickly turn a fun day out into a tragedy.

We would like to remind everyone to: ✅ Avoid swimming in open water unless it is a designated and supervised area.

✅ Keep children under close supervision near water.
✅ Take extra care around canals, lakes and reservoirs.
✅ Never enter the water to rescue someone – call 999 and ask for Fire and Rescue if someone is in difficulty.
✅ If you get into trouble in the water, float on your back, stay calm and call for help.
